Run With The Wind, Woodlawn Wind Farms, Tarago

A Unique Fun Run Event Amongst An Operational Wind Farm

MORE than 500 runners, their families and friends, will be amongst the 23 wind turbines at Woodlawn Wind Farms, Tarago on Sunday 11th October for the 4th annual Run with the Wind event.

Presented by Infigen Energy, the community fun run event is a joint initiative with regional based sporting event Management Company, 100% Events. Working with local businesses, sporting and community groups, the company creates a fun, festival atmosphere and encourages family participation with pram friendly courses.

Run with the Wind is the perfect opportunity to run surrounded by stunning views of rural landscapes and the majestic Lake George, among the Woodlawn Wind Turbine Farms.

This unique fun run event has options for all ages, motivations and fitness levels, with the 5km and 10km distances, both family friendly courses achievable by running, jogging or walking. The event is not just for avid runners, but for those wanting to get a closer look at the 23-turbine Woodlawn Wind Farm which is generally not accessible to the public.

The Run with the Wind event allows people to understand, engage with and challenge the concept of renewable energy.

Infigen Energy Senior Development Manager Frank Boland said the race, now in its fourth year, was the only wind farm fun run event he knew of to take place in Australia, possibly the world.

‘It is an amazing course and it’s a unique experience to be able to run underneath the wind turbines of Lake George,’ he said.

‘Renewable energy is going to be part of our future and an event like this is a great way of coming to see what the future will look like.’

100% Events is passionate about bringing sporting events to regional areas. CEO Mark Stewart sees the potential this event has to bring large numbers of people to the region, with a rare opportunity to ‘Run with the Wind’.

The beautiful town of Bungendore is only a 30 minute drive from Canberra and 3 hours from Sydney the perfect opportunity for that weekend away.

The local economy will receive a boost in what is normally a quieter time of the year, with organisers expecting about 1,000 people to visit Bungendore and surrounding. Tourism Research Australia estimates the average spend of these people will be about $232 a day, meaning the event will inject around $232,000 into the local economy.

Many local businesses have already pledged their support, with some fantastic prizes on offer donated by Veolia.

Infigen is going to celebrate the Australian wind farm open day through our well-known and popular ‘Run with the Wind’ festival. We’re eager to ensure our visitors get to experience the wind farm first hand, getting a taste of what it’s like to live or work on a large-scale Australian wind farm” said Ketan Joshi, Infigen Energy Research & Communications Officer.

The on-site event registration kicks off from 9am, with the 5km event starting at 10:45am and the 10km event starting at 11:30am, registrations are available on the day.
